This alloy, strengthened with silicon and magnesium, offers lower strength compared to some other aluminum alloys but remains widely used due to its excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. It can be easily formed through machining, welding, or other fabrication methods. The alloy boasts a machinability rating of 90% and excellent joining capabilities. If needed, the surface can be anodized or coated for additional protection.

Processing Methods
6061 alloys can be shaped using both hot and cold working techniques. In the annealed state, cold working allows for cutting, stamping, drilling, deep drawing, bending, or tapping using standard methods.
For heat treatment:
Preheat thoroughly at 990°F, then water quench.
For precipitation hardening, heat at 320°F for 18 hours, air cool, then heat at 350°F for 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
