Corrosion Resistance
GNEE 5083 aluminum tubes exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in both seawater and industrial environments. Their high magnesium content forms a protective oxide layer, providing strong defense against general and localized corrosion. Tests show that 5083 aluminum has very low pitting sensitivity in both static and flowing seawater. While higher magnesium content can slightly reduce corrosion resistance, the alloy's ability to retain strength after welding makes it an ideal material for marine structures, offshore platforms, and cryogenic containers.
Common Tempers
O (Annealed): Maximum formability, lowest strength.
H111 / H112 / H116 / H32: Different degrees of cold working; H112 is commonly used for tubing.
Formability: Excellent in O temper; moderate in H tempers with good springback control.
Welding and Joining
GNEE 5083 aluminum tubes are compatible with standard welding methods, including TIG, MIG, and friction stir welding, with low susceptibility to hot cracking. Welded joints maintain nearly full base material strength and corrosion resistance, with minimal post-weld softening.
