What is Aluminum 7075 T6 Plates

7075 aluminum plate is among the highest-strength aluminum alloys available today. It offers excellent fatigue strength and average machinability, making it well suited for applications involving highly stressed components. However, it is not weldable and provides lower corrosion resistance compared with many other aluminum alloys. Its mechanical performance varies depending on the temper. Common applications include bicycle components, aircraft structures, and firearm parts for military use. At GNEE, we stock multiple tempers, including

7075-T651, 7075-T6511, 7075-T7351, 7075-T3511, and 7075-T76511.

AA7075 is an aluminum alloy in which zinc is the primary alloying element. It delivers outstanding mechanical properties, combining high strength, good toughness, excellent fatigue resistance, and acceptable ductility. In the fully annealed condition, the alloy exhibits moderate formability, while heat treatment allows it to achieve strength levels comparable to many steel alloys. In fact, 7075 aluminum is stronger than many grades of mild steel.

7075-T6 aluminum is notable for offering nearly twice the strength-to-weight ratio of Grade 2 titanium, which further explains its popularity in weight-critical, high-performance applications.

Due to its exceptional strength characteristics, 7075 aluminum alloy is highly favored in the aerospace industry. Its typical chemical composition includes 5.1–6.1% zinc, 2.1–2.9% magnesium, and 1.2–2.0% copper, with smaller amounts of silicon, iron, manganese, titanium, chromium, and other trace elements kept below 0.5%.

One of the main reasons to select 7075 aluminum is its superior strength. Compared with 6061 aluminum, 7075 is significantly stronger, although it offers reduced corrosion resistance and is more difficult to weld. It is widely used in marine, automotive, and aerospace applications where strength is the primary requirement. Additionally, it is commonly applied in firearms manufacturing and in structural components such as hang glider frames.

7075 aluminum sheet and plate in T6 and T651 tempers are commonly used in aerospace, military, and automotive fields. As the strongest aluminum alloy, 7075 provides strength comparable to many steels while maintaining aluminum's advantages of low weight and inherent corrosion resistance.
