At present, battery foil production and sales are relatively low in the aluminum plate, strip and foil category. In terms of consumption, according to SMM statistics, battery foil will account for only 1% of aluminum consumption in 2022. In terms of production, battery foil's 2022 aluminum plate, strip and foil production breakdown includes 1.88 million tons of can body materials, 500,000 tons of can lid materials, 462,000 tons of automotive sheets, 788,000 tons of brazing materials, 2.4 million tons of packaging foil, and 2.4 million tons of air conditioners. 860,000 tons of foil, 263,000 tons of battery foil, 98,000 tons of electrode foil, and 705,000 tons of double-zero foil.
According to the above statistics, battery foil production accounts for only 3%. There may be two reasons. 1) Battery foil production capacity is close to the ceiling or 2) Currently, manufacturers do not receive many orders for battery foil, which means that the past demand for battery foil Insufficient support. This question can be answered by output and capacity data. In 2021, domestic battery foil output/capacity will be 128,000/192,000 tons respectively. By 2022, domestic battery foil output/capacity will reach 263/454,000 tons respectively. In comparison, the production capacity will reach The ceiling argument is not valid, and capacity utilization will decline significantly in 2022, from 67% to 58%. The reason why battery foil production and sales are relatively low or have become a "hidden corner" is due to insufficient support from past market demand. Especially before the outbreak of the new energy vehicle industry, manufacturers were not aware of its potential profit margins and their willingness to produce was not strong. Naturally, it has not received the attention it deserves.
