Aluminum Buttweld Elbow Description
An aluminum buttweld elbow is a pipe fitting that changes the direction of an aluminum pipe or tube. The elbow is welded directly to the pipe at both ends, which gives a strong, permanent joint.
GNEE is a manufacturer and exporter of aluminum pipe fittings. We supply aluminum buttweld elbows in 45° and 90° angles, long radius (LR) and short radius (SR), in common alloys and sizes. Send us your size and quantity for a price.

Alloys and Tempers
|
Alloy |
Good for |
Notes |
|
6061-T6 |
General industrial piping, structural pipework |
Our most common alloy. Good strength, welds with the correct procedure. |
|
6063-T5 |
Handrails, light piping, anodized work |
Easy to form, smooth surface finish. |
|
6082-T6 |
Stronger general-purpose piping |
Similar to 6061, slightly higher strength. |
|
5083 |
Marine and seawater lines |
Best corrosion resistance of the list, welds well. |
|
5086 |
Marine and coastal industrial piping |
Similar to 5083, also widely used. |
|
1050 / 1060 |
Low-stress jobs where corrosion resistance matters |
Soft and low strength. |
Most general piping jobs use 6061 or 6082. Use 5083 / 5086 for saltwater or marine work. If you are not sure which alloy fits your job, send us the working conditions and we will advise.
Note on welding: for 6061-T6 and other heat-treatable alloys, the weld heat-affected zone is softer than the original T6 material. This is normal for aluminum. For high-pressure or high-temperature lines, have the welded joint design checked by the pipework engineer.
Manufacturing
How an elbow is made depends on size, alloy and quantity:
Formed from aluminum tube or pipe - the most common route for standard sizes.
Rolled and seam-welded from plate - used for larger diameters.
Machined - for custom dimensions, special ends or close tolerances.
Not every alloy and size can be made every way. We confirm the production method before quoting.

Common Applications of Aluminum buttweld elbow
Real-world uses of aluminum buttweld elbows:
Compressed air lines in workshops and factories
Cooling water and process water lines
HVAC and chiller water piping
Fresh water and seawater cooling lines on boats and ships (5083 / 5086)
Handrails and light structural pipework (6063)
Dust and ventilation ducting
Low-pressure process piping where aluminum is suitable
Aluminum is picked for these jobs because it is light, does not rust, and often costs less than stainless steel. For pressure lines, gas lines or high-temperature service, confirm the alloy and the welding procedure with us before ordering.

FAQ
What is an aluminum buttweld elbow? A pipe fitting that changes the direction of aluminum piping. The elbow is welded to the pipe at both ends.
What is the difference between LR and SR elbows? Long radius (LR) elbows have a larger bend and less flow resistance. Short radius (SR) elbows save space but have more flow resistance. LR is the common default.
Can you supply 6061-T6 aluminum elbows? Yes, 6061-T6 is our most common alloy for general industrial piping. Note that the weld area will be softer than the T6 base material, which is normal for this alloy.
Do you export aluminum fittings? Yes. We export worldwide by sea, air or express. Give us the destination port for a freight quote.
Do you make custom sizes? Yes. If you provide a drawing, or the exact pipe OD, wall thickness and angle, we can confirm whether it can be made and quote you.
